Edwards Brothers Malloy is currently seeking an Offset Press Manager at our Ann Arbor, Michigan facility. Edwards Brothers Malloy's has annual sales of almost $100 million; making us one of the largest book and journal manufacturer in the United States. With over 120 years in the industry our expertise in manufacturing allow us to help publishers get books and journals where they need to be with minimum cost and effort, whether it's across the country, around the world, or right next door. We offer a single supply chain solution for any publisher from printing to fulfillment services. 


The Offset Press Manager is responsible for the management of a 3-shift operation using web and sheet presses to produce single color and multicolor components for book manufacturing.  The manager will oversee the activities of department supervisors, leads, and direct reports to attain production goals consistent with safety, cost, quality, and delivery requirements while balancing internal and external relationship management expectations. 



Department Management

  • Work with Production Scheduler and other department managers to help establish and maintain schedules that meet customer expectations and are consistent with the company's objectives.
  • Work with supervisors to review production schedules, material, and manpower resources to ensure efficient operation to meet shift, daily, monthly, and annual targets.
  • Champion and model a culture of safety by all department employees.
  • Oversee, coordinate, or schedule downtime to allow for routine preventive maintenance of all equipment.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles and tools in the daily management of the department.
  • Develop, execute, and modify operational methods and processes to increase the efficiency and throughput of existing equipment.
  • Organize, lead, and support teams working on process improvement experiments/projects.
  • Identify, track, and report on KPIs that measure departmental targets and support company objectives.

Staffing and Employee Development

  • Work with department supervisors to evaluate staffing needs based on work mix to ensure optimal use of resources.
  • Engage with department supervisors and Human Resources to ensure an adequate pipeline of full-time, on-call, and/or temporary employees to meet departmental staffing needs (both seasonal and long-term).
  • Champion and model the use of company systems and tools plus adherence to company policies and standards in the monitoring and evaluating employee performance.
  • Support skill development of supervisors and employees through training and education.

Annual Plan Development

  • Collaborate with other managers and company leadership to create a company-wide annual plan that supports an established sales target.
  • Develop a departmental budget and plan that supports the overall company goals and objectives.
  • Provide data and analysis that support creation of offset press throughput targets.


  • Provide subject matter expertise on equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Serve as a technical expert to internal and external customers regarding offset press capabilities.
  • Monitor industry trends to identify opportunities for Edwards Brothers Malloy.
  • Identify, direct, and provide oversight to internal and external personnel whose work supports offset press equipment and resources.
  • Network with industry peers to capitalize on best practices that improve and/or expand Edwards Brothers Mallloy's technical offerings.
  • Participate in trade shows, conferences, and industry meetings.
  • Participate in customer seminars, meetings, and/or tours as required.



  • 7+ years of progressively responsible print production supervisory and/or management experience.
  • Broad and strong technical knowledge in offset printing.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage people and direct work activities.
  • Effective prioritization skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer systems including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Google Mail.
  • Strong negotiation skills, including the ability to influence customers and partners to achieve savings objectives.
